3-part note

1. i dread going for tuition! and to think i was so excited about it when i first started out last year. some of my students are alright, but some have very low absorbency levels that they learn little from my 2 hours of non-stop "explanation/asking them to explain what i just said (so i can catch my breath and not get sore throat)" cycle. and worse, repeat off the most colloquial parts of my explanation (which can't be written in an exam). and WORST, still stubbornly use the same old wrong expressions to describe the concept which i have just taught.

what have i done wrong... i asked them a question immediately after i just taught them, to make sure they know what is going on. that i'm very sure is the best way to learn, to be able to answer the question correctly means that he understands the concept. but whyyyyyyy. why still keep making the same mistake. why why why.

my other tuition-related gripe: correspondence with very/overly concerned parents. imagine having to answer the same questions to the same parent every week. the questions include "what strategies you have to teach my son in this subject?" and "what do you think my son lacks?". as if explaining it once isn't enough. the uber-kiasu dude keeps buying more assessment, even though i already said he has bought enough for the time being. is my job of answering his torrent of questions then, to pacify and reassure that i'm the miracle tutor they need?

(oh, not to mention, i had to answer in MANDARIN!!!! shit. i can do conversational mandarin, but just not so good in describing my entire vocabulary of teaching methods in infinite ways because i've been asked infinite times. and why is it that some of my friends have the impression that i'm good at mandarin!?)

anyway, the poor boy had no choice but to listen to the entire conversation (and listen to my shitty mandarin), because the parents sat in during the tuition and just popped the question like that.

sometimes, life is just, well, sad *shrugs*

2. i don't know if anyone has thought about this. but we were actually the MOST PRODUCTIVE in school! don't you think so? cramming so much information in such short time, and still acing tests? and now what am i doing. plodding away at the speed of a buffalo chained to a ploughing machine. i've barely learnt ANYTHING in the past three months! someone save my wretched soul.

well, that is if i value my time according to how much i've used it for learning, i'm totally screwed up. haha. will my life after the days of school be this unproductive? *shudders*

3. yay people turned up yesterday for a gathering at my place (:

proof:

missing: pong, urh i meant lionel XD (he went home early with a box containing all of my JC physics/maths notes!)

there was food (thanks to mom!)

for some reason dq the Joker had to ask where's my room and the entire jin-gang trooped down to scrutinise my private life. isn't the colour of the room quite nice? though i think the adjacent walls have to be in some other colour. so weird leh, 2 walls joined by the same bright colour.

this karaoke-king promptly pounced on the mics after my dad's (female) students left. lol!

don't worry my dear chorale-mates/classmates/school friends/other random army friends. some nice gathering for you all is currently in the 'construction process' (in my mind).

yay!

and here's another gripe! why do people leave their attendance status hanging in midair? i think it's so impolite. if you're not coming, say so, man. you won't hurt my feelings if you say "no" nicely (provided there's a reason behind not coming), but if you say something like "maybe" it swings to "no i'm not coming" but i can't take it as a "no" because "maybe" is "maybe".

but this "maybe" quite often means (entirely or part thereof): "i don't want to come because i don't feel like i want to see that group of people including you. so i'm not making any efforts to mark this date on my calendar, or make arrangements for it. but because we were once/are friends i'd feel bad if i boycott the event so please understand my situation". it's really like that.

saying "maybe" is therefore, equivalent to not replying to my sms-es/msn convos at all :(

and i really really really really really really do want to see all of you again. blah.

whyyyyyyyy.

i guess those organising their massive 21st feel the same way as i do? but on a grander or smaller scale i'm not sure. too many people invited can either mean you the accumulated amount of sadness from missing each absentee is either a lot more or a lot less.

i think too much, don't i...
