28th february 2009

pioneer and joo koon mrt stations open on the 28th of this month!!! :)

ok, so what, right?

don't you find the mrt really awesome? the system is so tight, they come on schedule and the locations of the stations are rather well placed. plus there's so many stations around the island, with increasing interesting interiors, and parts of the journey are scenic too.

i think the lrt is fantastic as well. i haven't tried the punggol lrt yet (gasp!). but i loved the bukit panjang one when it opened - it's like a monorail ride and so, liberating not to have raised rails at the sides of the tracks to prevent people from falling off them (during emergency evacuation). the sengkang one is really really nice! if you take the route that doesn't ply through most of the hdb estates, that is. there's parts of the journey where you're rather close to forest and large empty spaces of land. very quiet looking and nice to just sit down and watch the outside move past. and for the train to stop at unopened stations, or to open its doors to underused stations (maybe a no-face from spirited away comes on board then?). ooooh exciting!!!

i have this love for mrt since i was young. i could remember the entire sequence of mrts on the north-south, east-west and the then branch line (from bukit batok to choa chu kang), and i still can, now! just that i haven't "mugged" the north east line nor the lrt stations. not fervently passionate for mrt now la.

oh, and i learnt how to read and write most of the red and green station names in chinese as well! it's pure coincidence that my chinese name is an mrt and estate name, though.

SO! i think i'm gonna troop down to pioneer/joo koon to have a look on opening day haha. i remember, though, that the exterior of these stations aren't very nice, but never mind i still want to go.
